Joe  Siegel
Joe Siegel
VBC Executive Director

Joe, originally from Brooklyn, NY, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Binghamton University, and a master’s degree in physical education from Queens College. He was the athletic director at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers for two years and the Multi-Sport Director at Roslyn Racquet Club for two years. In 1998, Joe joined the SPORTIME team as the Executive Director of Multi-Sport and Camps. In 2010, he founded Sportime Volleyball Club and continues to oversee all aspects of the program. Joe has more than 30 years of coaching experience at the junior club, high school, and college levels.

Jose Brito

Jose, originally from Long Beach, NY, began playing volleyball at the age of 10. Beginning in 2003, he attended Hofstra University, where he earned both a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2007, followed by a master’s degree in physical education. Jose joined the SPORTIME/VBC team in 2011.

Matthew Gassert

Matt, originally from New York, was a competitive swimmer as a junior. Beginning in 2007, he attended SUNY New Paltz, where he was a member of the men’s swimming team for all four years, achieving season-best times in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke during the 2009-2010 season. He was also awarded the Matthew J. Gassert Award for Dedication, Perseverance and Selfless Devotion. Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in history from New Paltz in 2011, and a master’s degree in crisis and disaster management from Bellevue University in 2015. Matt currently serves as the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach at Molloy College. He joined the SPORTIME/VBC team in 2018.

Sandeep (Sunny), originally from New York, earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Stony Brook University. Sunny began competing in SPORTIME Adult Volleyball leagues before joining our SPORTIME VBC coaching staff in 2021. He has since been elevated to become a VBC Assistant Director and Assistant General Manager of our Bethpage Multi-Sport facility. Sunny is also the Co-Organizer of the NY Volleyball SPORTIME Men's League. He joined the SPORTIME/VBC teeam in 2021.

Alyssa, originally from Floral Park, NY, played competitive volleyball as a junior. She attended LIU Post, where she played for the women’s volleyball team, and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education teaching and coaching. Alyssa went on to earn a master's degree in health teacher education from Hofstra University, and joined the SPORTIME/VBC team in 2006.

Chris, originally from Massapequa, NY, played competitive volleyball as a junior, earning All-County, All-Long Island, All-Long Island MVP and All-State at Massapequa High School honors. Beginning in 2012, Chris attended SUNY New Paltz, where he played on the men’s volleyball team for all four years. He was named UVC Player of the Week in 2014 and 2015, and First-Team All-UVC for three seasons, received AVCA First-Team All-America honors in 2015 and 2016, and was ranked second in NCAA Division III in hitting percentage (.471) in 2015. Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from New Paltz in 2016, and joined the SPORTIME/VBC team in 2018.

Nick Smith

Volleyball Director

Nick, originally from Long Beach, NY, competed in volleyball and swimming as a junior. He was named All-County in volleyball and diving, and earned All-American honors in diving at Long Beach High School. Beginning in 2011, Nick attended CUNY Baruch College, where he played on the men’s volleyball team, winning three CUNYAC championships, and earning CUNYAC First Team All-Star honors in 2015. Nick earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Baruch College in 2015, and joined the SPORTIME/VBC team later that year.

Mohamed ElGammel
Mohamed ElGammel
VBC Strength & Conditioning Coach

Mohamed, originally from Egypt, was a member of the National European Handball Team and competed in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. He earned an associate’s degree in hotel management and food and beverage from the International Scientific Center in 1995, and a certificate in personal training from the International Sports Science Association in 2000. Mohamed served as the Fitness Director at SPORTIME Lynbrook before starting his own personal training business. He joined the SPORTIME/VBC team in 2024.
