VBC Tryout Information for the 2025-26 Season

General Description

All players interested in joining a SPORTIME VBC competitive team are required to attend tryouts in order to be evaluated by our team of coaches. Players are evaluated based upon their skill level and how they perform during competitive play. Coaches are also interested in a player’s attitude, work ethic and sportsmanship displayed during the tryout process.

Multiple sessions are offered for each age group, but attendance in at least one session is required to be considered for a team. *Please note: players who are not able to attend scheduled tryout sessions are encouraged to contact a Club Director to discuss alternative options.

Tryout Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How do I register my child for VBC Tryouts?
A. Simply click the “Register Now” tab to register your child. If you are new to SPORTIME, you will need to set up your free account as a responsible party and then add your child as your dependent. Once completed, you will make your payment to register.

Q. What happens after I register and pay for tryouts?
A. All parents of registered players will receive an email link that will allow them to complete their child’s Player Profile. This online profile must be completed and submitted prior to the start of tryouts in order to participate.

Q. How do I know what age group to register my child for?
A. We recommend that players try out with others in the same school grade, but those born after July 1st also qualify to try out for one age group younger. We have included the USAV Age Chart for your reference. Parents unsure of which age group to register their child for are encouraged to contact a VBC Director for assistance.

Q. If my child has a late birthday, can he or she try out for two different age groups?
A. We sometimes allow players to attend tryouts for two different age groups for one session only. At the conclusion of that session, he or she must commit to the age group they would like to be considered for.

Q. What if my child plays more than one position?
A. Players 14 and older are required to select a position when registering. Players can speak to our coaches at tryouts and ask to try different positions during 6 v 6 game play. They can then speak to a Club Director to get a sense of which position is their strongest. Players 13 and under are not required to select a specific playing position.

Q. What if my child cannot attend any of the scheduled sessions?
A. Players who cannot attend scheduled tryouts may try to schedule a player evaluation with a VBC Director PRIOR to the scheduled tryout dates in order to be considered for a team. Private player evaluations do not guarantee team placement and players are at a disadvantage by not attending tryouts with their peers.

Q. Are all tryout sessions at the SPORTIME Bethpage location?
A. No. The larger VBC program trains at our Bethpage Multi-Sport location, but players interested in joining a VBC team closer to their homes may attend tryouts at our annex locations in Amagansett, Kings Park, Lynbrook, or Quogue. Tryout schedules for those locations are clearly outlined on our master schedule.

Q. What does my child bring to tryouts?
A. Comfortable sneakers, athletic clothing, and a water bottle. We provide all players with a tryout shirt that must be worn during both sessions of tryouts.

Q. How will I find out if my child makes a team and how long will I have to accept an invitation if he or she receives one?
A. ALL players will receive an email within 1-2 days of the conclusion of the tryout process. They will either be invited to join a VBC team, with all details attached, or they will be notified that they have been placed on a waiting list for their specific age group. Players will have 72 hours to accept or decline their invitation. Once that window ends, players from the waiting list will be invited to join the program.

Q. If my child is on a waiting list, what is the likelihood that he or she will make it onto a team?
A. Each year, we invite a large number of players who were initially on waiting lists, to join a competitive team.

Q. What if my child wants to attend another club’s tryouts after the 72 hour invitation window expires?
A. Families are afforded a full 72 hours to think about whether or not they would like to join the program. Once that window closes, the invitation expires and the club must move to the waiting list to fill each team’s roster.

Q. Where can I find information about the various SPORTIME VBC programs offered?
A. Simply click on “VBC Programs” on our website and you can filter to view all of our offerings for boys and girls.

Q. Will there be a SPORTIME VBC Parent Information Meeting prior to the tryouts so I can learn more about the program?
A. Yes. We will be holding a parent information meeting on ZOOM, on Wednesday, July 30th, at 7:00pm. This information is included on the above page, as well as on the VBC Tryout Flyer.
