SPORTIME Port Washington – John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA), Long Island

Formerly the Port Washington Tennis Academy, the junior training ground for American tennis greats like John and Patrick McEnroe, Vitas Gerulaitis, Tracy Austin and many others in the 1970’s and 1980’s, this club was relaunched as SPORTIME Port Washington, and as the second Nassau County, Long Island, location of JMTA, in September 2023. Welcome back John and Patrick! The club underwent an $8.5 million, “top to bottom”, renovation in 23’-24’, and is now state-of-the art, and the largest indoor tennis and pickleball club on Long Island.

This SPORTIME club features six indoor, hard-surface tennis courts, seven indoor, sub-irrigated, Har-Tru, soft-surface tennis courts and 12 indoor, oversized, pickleball courts in a dedicated building, all fully climate controlled. It also offers two state-of-the-art golf simulators with adjacent lounge/party rooms, an athletic training center for group and private sport-specific training, a well-stocked pro shop, locker rooms and substantial lobby and lounge spaces throughout the facility that make it easy to relax after play, and to spectate and socialize in comfort.

Open 365 days a year, the club offers SPORTIME’s proprietary group instructional and competitive tennis, pickleball and athletic training programs, including JMTA, as well as summer and school-break camps, for juniors and adults of all ages and levels, provided by our team of world-class directors and coaches. Our group and private coaching emphasizes both technical skill-building and on-court strategy, and the importance of developing complete players. With our “games approach”, SPORTIME students learn how to play tennis and pickleball from day-one. Seasonal and hourly court rentals are available and our active member/player community, and game arranging service, make it easy to meet new partners and friends who share your tennis and/or pickleball passion.

Non-members can participate in certain activities at SPORTIME Port Washington, including camps, some introductory tennis and pickleball programs and open play sessions, as well as court-time rental and golf simulator use at non-discounted rates. SPORTIME members are able to access our full menu of programs and services, including JMTA training, and all that the club and SPORTIME have to offer, with reciprocal privileges at other designated SPORTIME clubs, discounted court-time, and many other great membership benefits. "Huge facility with nicely lit up about a dozen clay and hard courts for tennis as well as about a dozen dedicated courts for pickleball. Snacks, beverages and pro shop as well."

"I rediscovered this facility about a year ago as I got drawn into playing Pickleball more and more. This is a great place to play and meet like minded players. 12 dedicated new courts, pro shop, indoor track, bathrooms and lounge area. This place is kept spotless! The staff is great and they have programs to suit all levels throughout the week. Here at least 3 Xs a week. Book a court or go to a scheduled open play, it's a ton of fun. Oh, they do offer clay and hard courts and a golf sim too!"
